Have Acne? You Might Want to Avoid These Foods
You just entered puberty and now, you are worrying about those excess hormones causing enlarged and overactive oil glands. Pimples start to appear on your face. And every time you look in the mirror, you feel conscious and anxious that you might get acne.
Blackheads, pimples, raised lesions, and whiteheads are the common symptoms of acne. Don’t fret when any of these happen show on your face. Instead, you may want to avoid certain foods to prevent acne from happening or worsening. Think twice before eating these foods:
1. Chocolates.
Yes, you’ve read it right and it’s already heartbreaking. In a 2014 study, it was found out that participants who consumed a larger dose of cocoa also got more pimples. Experts, however, say that it is not actually the chocolate that triggers the breakout, but what are put into it, such as additives, preservatives, and sugar.
2. Ice cream.
The sweetness of this dessert may be tempting, but try to resist. Just like chocolates, an ice cream has a high glycemic index, which causes a large spike in blood sugar. And when the latter happens, lines and wrinkles will start to appear on your upper forehead. You’ll also notice widespread blemishes and gaunt appearance. Consuming too much sugar on a regular basis leads to glycation. It is a process in which the excess glucose molecules cling to your collagen and as a result, distortion and stiffness take place.
3. Peanuts.
Another item to your avoid-these-foods-list is peanut. Whether it’s peanuts or peanut butter, better refrain from eating these foods. Experts reveal that the oil in peanuts can cause skin issues because it does not break down well in the body. Moreover, peanuts may contain aflatoxin, which have been linked to liver cancer.
These are just three of the many foods you should avoid eating to prevent acne from getting worse. But above all, what’s more important is that you observe the right diet, proper hygiene, and regular exercise. Eating too much carbs isn’t the only reason – everything from what you apply and not apply on your face to what you do for living could be behind this breakout. At the end of the day, you may just need some rest, relieve yourself from stress, and get rid of acne.
